Why We Love Star Wars: The Great Moments That Built A Galaxy Far, Far Away by Ken Napzok is This is the first review I've even given for anything ever and I'm ecstatic that it's for Ken Napzok. I've been a fan of his through Collider for years now, and his passion flows through this from cover to cover. I would say on the Star Wars Hardcore Fan meter, I'm about a 5 and I can't put it down.PROS1) Accessibility. I'll be honest, Star Wars was just never my thing. I always appreciated it, enjoyed it, seen them all, yada yada blah blah. Middle-Earth, Harry Potter and Comic Book Films have always been my more serious vices. But I've always been tip toeing my way over the years into learning more and more about the galaxy far, far away, either through books, podcasts or even video games. I've reached page 67 of this book so far, and immediately I can say I'd recommend this as one of my top 3 books to anyone who wants to know more about Star Wars. It has everything the hardcore Wookies want to reenact their favorite scenes and sit teary eyed when they're done, but also draws newer and more casual fans like myself deeper into the galactic lore.2) The size of the book. Random, right? But you'll understand when your hands clasp this thing. The book feels great to hold in your hand. It's the absolute perfect shape, not too small to stress you out but not too big where its clunky and unmanageable. Easy to travel with and pages flip effortlessly. The book feels high quality, which I never thought I'd say about anything to avoid sounding like a tool, and the page length is a perfect 388.3) Flow: Ken finds a way to keep the pace of the writing going in a way where I almost never felt detached. It zips from rehashing scenes to personal anecdotes flawlessly, almost as if we're just two guys reminiscing over a beer about which parts we loved the most.ConsI honestly can't come up with any. Go figureCONCLUSION: When I first heard that Ken was putting a book together, I didn't know what the topic was, but I knew it probably was Star Wars. I felt extremely happy for him, knowing the many moments I'd get to experience through his ramblings on the SK Show, his sweaty rants on Jedi Council or his cackling commentary on the Movie Trivia Schmoedown. Ultimately, I felt excited that I got to support Ken with something that he was this passionate about and would recommend this to all Star Wars fans out there of all levels and to anyone who just wants a fun, passionate, interesting read from start to finish. 5 Stars.
Why We Love Star Wars: The Great Moments That Built A Galaxy Far, Far Away by Ken Napzok is In general, this book was fine but I expected more. I admire the authorâs passion, but it seemed like his observations were very much on the surface and couldâve gone into more depth. I didnât feel like I learned anything new about Star Wars after reading this book and I think I just wanted a little more insight.Furthermore, for a book that emphasizes the reasons why we love Star Wars, I was disappointed to see the authorâs criticisms and nitpicks scattered throughout the book. Judging by the title, I expected the book to be more uplifting but I ended up walking away disappointed by some of the negative comments. Coming from the perspective of a fan who didnât grow up with the Original Trilogy films first and foremost, I was also upset to see many of those criticisms channeled at the prequel trilogy films. Iâve heard most of these criticisms hundreds of times and I wouldâve hoped the author wouldâve opted not to mention them, being how repetitive theyâve been the last 20 years. Thereâs a way to discuss Star Wars in an inspiring, positive, and thoughtful manner without having a deprecating comment attached and I didnât feel like the author executed on that. What I struggled with most though was the choppy writing style. I had a very difficult time following the authorâs observations much of the time and it seemed like the writing just needed a little more work.Despite its flaws, the book has its moments, and while it may have not been for readers like myself, perhaps others will obtain some level of enjoyment out of it. Additionally, while much of the book didnât work for me, another readerâs enjoyment is much more important to me than my criticisms. I respect the authorâs perspectives and commend him for his efforts in contributing to the universe of Star Wars literature.
Why We Love Star Wars: The Great Moments That Built A Galaxy Far, Far Away by Ken Napzok is Ken Napzok's love and passion for Star Wars is contagious. Ken is a prequelist (loves the SW Prequel Films) and I am not and believe I never will be. But the things that I have not liked in those movies get a fresh perspective from Ken that even gets me questioning my opinions.Ken's optimism of Star Wars is very refreshing as we live in a constantly polarized world that gets more negative by the day.If you enjoyed the book, I would highly recommend checking out his podcasts. Where his voice rises to the top and you'll find yourself listening to him talk about subjects you never thought you'd be interested in. Like me listening to him talk about professional wrestling and I've never watched a match in my life.
